latest openWRT/LEDE image for 344

  1. 5 months ago

    Hi,

previously i have been able to compile Chaos Calmer and it worked. My device (WPJ344HV-A 6A08) is up and running with it.

Do you know what is the latest working image from master branch of openWRT. last i tried to load the latest i could not get the wired interface up and running.

It would be great to know the latest openWRT image support on the device.

Do you also support LEDE image? (https://www.lede-project.org/ )

  2. i just loaded lede image and the board is up..

    Would you like to try:
    https://downloads.openwrt.org/chaos_calmer/15.05.1/ar71xx/generic/

    Yes, we do :-)
We have added the instructions here:

    Hi,

I have just bought 11 WPJ344 boards and have flashed two of them with OpenWRT CC then OpenWRT DD, both from downloads.openwrt.com and then the latest LEDE nightly. All of these images have some sort of Ethernet problem or the boards themselves have an Ethernet problem.

Both of these boards now have completely unresponsive ethernet ports, even in U-Boot. Tx and Rx bytes show 0 bytes.

I can't ping the boards, the boards can't ping anything and i can't GET or PUT a TFTP file to reflash them to something else.

I flashed the boards straight out of the box so i can't confirm that the issue is present with CompexWRT, however, I have left the 3rd board powered on overnight and will check if it is dead when i get to work in the morning.

On both boards the issue occurred after power was disconnected completely, up to that point the boards could ping and be pinged, as you would expect.

is it normal that a Compex board can't be pinged at 192.168.1.1 when in the bootloader?

I'm stuck on this one, there seems to be plenty of posts with WPJ344 having Ethernet issues but they all appeared to be solved.

I have lots of experience with 802.11/Linux/OpenWRT/LEDE and Compex, I've never seen this problem. If it helps i do this stuff for a day job and I have lots of resources to throw at this problem if someone can tell me what i can do.

    Please help,
    Acea

    Hi Acea,

    > is it normal that a Compex board can't be pinged at 192.168.1.1 when in the bootloader?
Yes it is normal, because ping is not supported in bootloader mode.

    Troubleshooting Tip

If you see this error message:

    Timeout occurred
    Connect request failed
Please disable 3rd party firewall software.

Try waiting at least 12 seconds before entering the command to transfer the firmware in Step 3 above.

Disconnect all other networks, e.g. turn off wireless.

(For older boards e.g. WP546, ping to the board again. Once the ping has found a path to the board, the PC wireless can be enabled again. Your PC should still be able to ping to the board. For current and newer boards, ping is not supported in loader mode. You just have to attempt the command to transfer the file.)

You may also try setting your PC LAN port IP address to a single static IP address only e.g. 192.168.1.10.

Next, you may disable Windows firewall and try again.

I have been working with wpj344 boards and a generic (not Compex) USB to serial connection for a while. I have noticed that, if I power up the board with the serial port plugged on, eth0 will be unresponsive in both the bootloader and the firmware. If I reboot (not re-power) the firmware through the serial connection, eth0 will be responsive again for the bootloader and firmware. If the firmware is bricked, I have to unplug the serial, re-power the board, then quickly plug on the serial and press a key in Putty in time to get into the bootloader to install some working firmware.
    Hope this helps.

    Hi Nick,

Kindly please let us know what's the USB to serial converter that you are using?
I recommend purchasing the Unitek converter cable e.g. https://world.tmall.com/item/37193328742.htm?spm=a230r.1.14.8.NB8lz7&id=37193328742&ns=1&abbucket=19

What's the serial converter that you are using?
I recommend purchasing the serial converter (serial to 4-wires) from Compex WebShop:
    http://shop.compex.com.sg/serial-converter.html

What's the firmware version, bootloader version, and the board version e.g. 6A08?

    Kind regards,
    Winston
